Hey there, friends!

Lately, I found myself with some free time, and naturally, I dived into gaming, watching movies, and listening to podcasts. But even after indulging in all these relaxing pastimes, I couldn’t shake off this little itch of dissatisfaction. I soon realized that I was just soaking up content instead of investing some time in my hobbies or skills.

Having previously shared my thoughts on Medium, I had overcome the initial resistance to expressing myself publicly. However, I’ve now taken a step further by purchasing a domain and launching a blog. There are several motivations for starting this blog, as listed below. I’m hoping that some of these reasons might resonate with you, and who knows, perhaps it’ll inspire you to start blogging about your own hobbies and thoughts.

The Balance between Consumption and Creation

For a while now, I have been lingering on this idea of content consumption versus creation. Consumption of content is very easy, satisfying, and helps one to relax; however, excessive consumption is not at all beneficial. As a movie fanatic and game lover, I had spent hours watching movies and playing games (btw, Valorant is my favorite online game, but don’t ask my rank xd), and I started to realize that it was getting a bit out of hand. After watching a few creators online on YouTube and reading about them, this idea of “content consumption vs creation” started to pop up in my mind. What if I split my free time between watching/playing and creating? What if my experiences, thoughts, and ideas would help someone facing a similar situation?

Creating a Home for All My Hobbies

There’s this quote that lives rent-free in my head – “If we have only one life to live, why just limit ourselves to a single identity?”. This line provided me with the inspiration to work on multiple hobbies simultaneously and create something different with each of them.

I believe that I’m average at a few things, like sketching, analyzing movies, or playing the piano, and I thought, why not share small bits of content online and keep at it to see where it goes? Sharing these bits on my own site would provide a single home for all my hobbies. Even if only a couple of people checked it out over the internet, it beats letting my ideas collect dust offline. Maybe a bit of friendly feedback would help me improve.

Decoupling Knowledge and Time

Another important reason for starting a blog is to decouple my knowledge from my time. Often, people come to us seeking advice about our experiences, and naturally, we want to help them with what we know. But sometimes, they ask about details from our past that we might not fully recollect. Now, instead of giving them incomplete information, documenting and sharing it can be beneficial for both parties. This way, I won’t have to spend time trying to recall every detail, and they’ll get all the complete information they need. If someone seeks advice on a topic I’ve covered but don’t remember well, I can simply refer them to my blog.

Improving My English Skills

I’ve always felt my English speaking was okay but could be much better. I’ve got some good ideas and questions bouncing around in my head, yet I sometimes find it challenging to express them clearly. I started reading more to help with this, but I feel writing might give me the clarity and confidence that I’m looking for. Putting my thoughts down could really help me sharpen my communication skills.

Idea Generation

Writing on Medium proved to me that the more you write, the more ideas you come up with. Keeping ideas to myself doesn’t do much good, but sharing them online not only helps me keep track of my progress but might also help someone else out there. Moreover, if I don’t start putting down my thoughts, I might not come up with new ones.

Who knows, 15 years down the lane, maybe this blog might have helped me find my true passion, maybe start a business, or maybe meet some great people all over the world. And if not, it will serve as a personal memoir of my thoughts and ideas all those years ago. In any case, I don’t think I have much to lose.

Now, perhaps it’s time for you to begin sharing your creations online too!
